What the Word “Team” Means to Spee-Dee Delivery
They say “teamwork makes the dream work,” which certainly rings true for Spee-Dee Delivery. When Spee-Dee Delivery was founded, it was just Don Weeres and his truck. His goal was to provide a fast, reliable delivery service for local businesses. He was good at it, and demand grew. Now, one man with a pickup truck can only do so much. In order to meet rising demand, Don needed some extra hands and trucks to go with them. Don needed a team.
Over the last four and a half decades, the Spee-Dee Delivery team has continued to grow as our business has spread throughout the Midwest. Today Spee-Dee Delivery is an equal opportunity employer that services 9 Midwest states. With 1,800 people strong and counting, our team is the backbone, muscle and lifeblood of our company.
We use the word “team” a lot at Spee-Dee Delivery because teamwork underlies everything we do. Keep reading to learn just what the word “team” means to us.
Team Means Working Together Toward a Common Goal
Spee-Dee Delivery has one simple goal: to provide efficient, friendly, affordable delivery services for our customers. To achieve that goal, we have an all-star team of package handlers, drivers, technicians, custodial staff and office workers. Just like the players on a basketball team, each Spee-Dee Delivery employee holds down a key position and provides the assists that keep us in scoring position. “Team” means that we keep that end goal in sight in everything we do, and together we achieve it every day.
Team Means Having Each Other’s Backs
Co-workers share space while working independently; teammates have each other’s backs. The teams at Spee-Dee Delivery work in support of each other, in collaborative units. Whether it’s switching a shift, assisting with a heavy load or answering a question, our employees know they can look to each other for support. We build a culture of trust, communication and friendliness, a value that extends to the way we treat our customers through maintaining quality service and communication at all times. The leadership at Spee-Dee Delivery also understands the importance of having our teammates’ backs; after all teamwork drives success. Without the members of our teams across every division, we wouldn’t be able to handle 70,000 packages a day. We play our position in part by paying people well, providing excellent full-time benefits and making sure our teams get plenty of quality time with their families.
Team Means Comradery
Studies indicate that kids who play team sports experience positive mental health benefits. Building rapport with others is an important part of being a person and an essential part of building a team. Spee-Dee Delivery facilitates important interpersonal connections that improve the quality of life of our team members. We make sure our employees work in safe environments in which they can build bonds, share laughs and enjoy the time they spend together. A true team is a cohesive unit in which people recognize each other’s skills, honor each other’s differences and learn from each other, which is only possible with a strong sense of comradery. At Spee-Dee Delivery, that’s what “team” is all about.
